Derby's muddy shoreline |
We had really enjoyed our time in Middle Lagoon. The weather
had been beautiful and the fishing even better. It was very tempting to stay
longer, but time was moving along wether we did or not, and there is still a
lot to see before we arrive home. We bid farewell to the Middle Lagoon crew who
had become our friends and were off on the dusty orange corrugations once more.

Derby Jetty |
It was a quick detour into Broome to sort out an electrical/fuse popping issue
in the Pajero and a super quick stock up of the food boxes. We bumped into
Vanessa at her fundraising for cancer stand in the shopping centre and swapped
some dollars for a sweet morning tea. Back in the car and onto Derby. Derby
love their Boab Trees. They are absolutely everywhere. For the first time ever
in our travels, we have come across a caravan park that doesn't allow children.
In the book it states that this caravan park has "no children's
facilities" which actually means no kids allowed. So needless to say; we
stayed at the Kimberley
Entrance Caravan
Park which was more than
happy to have children. Our afternoon was spent down at the Derby jetty watching and chatting to others
who were fishing and crabbing. The tides are really big here and the water is
always brown from the large tidal movements. We treated ourselves to dinner out
at the Spinifex Hotel. It was a very expensive treat but nice. Pub food has a
different price tag and quality in Western
Australia to any of the other states. It is almost
like going to a really fancy restaurant.
