Lennard Gorge |
3rd June 2012 12437 kilometres to date
Everybody was up bright and early today ready to do the walk
into Lennard Gorge. It turns out we had been misinformed about this walk and it
was more difficult and slightly disappointing. It was a very big waterfall into
a very steep and extremely narrow gorge with no access for kids to any
swimming. We all piled back into the car. A quick stop at Imintji Store for
some fuel and information. The Gibb
River Road so far has been a fairly smooth drive.
Apparently we are travelling only a couple of days after the grader. The next
stop was Adcock Gorge. The turn off sign was actually past the turn off, so it
was uee to get in; and then it was a bit of driving around as there was no
signage to find the right track to the falls. A bit of four wheel driving and
we were there. A quick rock hop and there was a very cold pool for swimming.

Back in the car again and off to Galvans Gorge. No driving into this one. Just
a car park on the side of the road and an easy walk into the falls. Helene and
I went for a swim and sat under the waterfall. Galvans Gorge would be the
prettiest waterfall we have seen so far along the Gibb River Road. As we were drying up
after our swim, it was discovered that we were all covered in ticks. It was a
super quick walk back to the car and then twenty or so minutes of checking
ourselves and removing them. On the road again with a quick fuel stop at Mount Barnett
and off again up the Kalumburu
Road to Drysdale Station but not before crossing
the Hahn River
on the Gibb and the Gibb
River itself. It was a
very basic set up at Drysdale Station. John made a little friend and they had
lots of fun rolling their toy cars along our upturned boat. We had a great chat
with John's friends dad, as they had just travelled up and down the Kalumburu Road; and
found the confidence and assurance that the road was fine and we wouldn't have
any problems.
