The Journey

The Journey
Approximately 9996km. WOW. That's a lot of k's. Update 24th June 2012 bit of a miscalculation - we actually travelled 17154 kilometres. Now that really is a lot of k's.

Kununurra to the Bungle Bungles

John posing on some Warmun rock art
On the road again. We are singing THAT SONG AGAIN. We tried to leave Kununurra as early as possible, as we knew that the the road through Mabel Downs to Purnululu National Park was pretty rough. Most estimates were two to three ours to complete the fifty two kilometre, thirty seven creek crossing dirt road. The tank was three quarters full at Warmun but we thought we better pull in and get some diesel. WOOPS; it's Easter Sunday and the bloke wasn't opening up for anyone until ten o'clock. So we sat for an hour, waiting at a petrol station in the middle of nowhere.

Echidna Chasm
Warmun Roadhouse came a live at ten o'clock. For a place that appeared to not have a soul around for miles, it was chokers. All the locals came out to get their fill of chips, coke and toasted cheese sandwiches, whilst the line up for deisel was at least three cars long at each of the four pumps.

We managed to complete the bungle Bungles road in an hour and fifty minutes. It was rough. If there actually were thirty seven creek crossings, only twenty seven had water in them. Some crossing's were only puddles and three or so had water up to the side steps. We set up quick and headed off to Echidna Chasm. It was hard walking over large loose rocks up into the chasm, but it pretty amazing.
