Oyster Stacks - Cape Range

There was 1.82m high tide this morning, so we snorkeled Oyster Stacks which is best snorkeled at a large high tide. We met our friends Camryn, Kyla, Paul and Lyndal. The kids get on really well together and we all watch out for each other. The Oyster Stacks are exactly what their name suggests and as every fisherman knows, where there is structure, there is fish. It is a bit tricky getting in and out of the water, but there is a really cool pebble beach just south which makes it easy to get out of the water, however it makes it harder to get the kids back in the water because they would like to spend ages looking at all the amazing pebbles.

Guess what? Another day of snorkeling, fishing, swimming and relaxing on the beach at Mesa Camp, Cape Range National Park. We caught up with our friends Paul, Lyndal, Kyla and Camryn who were camping at Tulki Camp and spent another evening sitting on the sand dune watching the sun go down.

We went for a bit of a drive today to check out Cape Range National Park. It is so beautiful here. We did some fishing, swimming and snorkeling. Helene and I saw a really large shark and Chris and Lily swam with a school of Golden Trevaly.

A quick drive up the road through Exmouth to Cape Range National Park. A quick stock up in Exmouth and we were off to Mesa Camp. We had heard stories of lining up at the Rangers gate before eight in the morning to secure a site, so we assumed we would be staying in Exmouth for a night or two to allow us to get to the rangers gate early. We were pleasantly surprised when we called in to the DEC Office in Exmouth and discovered there were sites available within the Mesa Campground, so we where off to Cape Range.

Today we took a drive up the Yardie Creek Road, a very sandy corrugated road that has some cool spots to stop along the coastline. We didn't make it as far as Yardie Creek. Ningaloo Station charges you if you want to go to the beach, so we went back down the coast to a rock shelf and did some fishing.

We were all pretty exhausted after swimming with whale sharks yesterday, that it was a bit of a slow start today and not a whole lot planned to do. Chris hitched a ride on a boat with some guys and headed out fishing for the day whilst the kids and I went down the beach to snorkel and build sand castles. We spent the afternoon into evening up the pub with our whale shark swimming buddies the Mackenzie's and their lovely friend Vanessa. Vanessa is travelling around Australia attempting to raise $1 million for cancer research.
